View Full Version : Parking
I've noticed lately that cars have started to park on both sides of the road as you head onto Ger-y-Parc estate. This effecitvley reduces the road to single lane traffic. Aside the inconvience, my main concern is the possible access issue for emergency services.
The parking used to be enforced with signs and clamping but this seems to have all but dissappeared. I'm also assuming that the vehicles belong to the office workers but my understanding was that planning permission was granted as long as adequate parking was provided?
Not sure what can be done about this but would like to see how others feel about this.

Admin,
:) I am glad you have brought this "topic" back into circulation. I did raise this question some time ago but no one seemed interested. I also asked the question why the clamping signs no longer had a contact number on them and now I find - there are no longer any clamping signs.
I have noted owners of cars who are obviously staying/visiting the Hilton Hotel parking along the road and also coaches overnight, no doubt all the owners of said vehicles trying to save parking charges which the Hotel have put in place.
Does anyone know if this road is no longer "private"? Has the Council adopted the road? Perhaps this is a question which one of our local councillors could supply the answer to.
Regards

This will no doubt get worse now that Admiral are relocating to Langstone Business Park!
Agreed SallieM.
They are claiming "on-site parking" but that's never been sufficient in the past.

Admiral Group, which currently employs 1,500 in Cardiff and 1,100 in Swansea, will begin moving into the brand new 30,000 sq ft building in Autumn 2008. The office, Guinevere House, is located at Rombourne's Langstone Business Park development, at junction 24 of the M4, and will primarily house a Claims department with an initial intake of around 90 new employees.
The new building will be fully air conditioned, with chill out areas, a restaurant and on-site car parking.

I agree this is something to watch. Hopefully when Priory Drive is adopted by the Council there will be double yellow lines somewhere along the way! In the meantime, I know Councillor Lane has had meetings with the developers and thanks to him that awful blue boardng is being addressed. I would suggest that when the site is fully up and running we keep alert to the problems and report them back to our local Councillors so they can address the issues on our behalf.
I agree with all the points raised above and want to add that on two seperate occasions whilst driving with the chidren in the car, office workers have pulled out of the car parks and either I or they braked sharply to avoid a bump. Not only reduces 'passing' ability but visability.
Not a happy mummy.....
Yes hopefully Cllr Lane will be able to address this.
Is it me or has parking in Priory Drive increased in the last two weeks ?
Parking on both sides at the Hilton end is now a significant problem.
Added to the traffic exiting from the three "mini" business parks into an " narrowed" Priory Drive is becoming dangerous.
In the morning traffic hurrying to work just forces its way from the Columbus roundabout into and along Priory Drive, at lunchtime and afternoon it is the reverse.
I'm aware that the road has not been "adopted " , however something has to be done before damage is done.
Parking at the junction of the latest Priory housing development with Priory Drive is crazy, either on the footpath or on the junction.
Any ideas ?
This evening our local garage - Hillcroft has caused mayhem in Priory Drive
It has recovered a broken down articulated lorry and trailer to Priory Drive at 17:40 ----
Thanks !
I have every sympathy with you Steve. As a resident of Catsash Road I have to battle to get out of my drive some mornings as the "rat run" traffic and numerous school buses and other vehicles use the road like Silverstone race track! Ironically, the only thing that seems to slow them down is when they spy the occasional speed recorder wire that is placed on the road by the council(?) Once these are analysed, the authorities must think that everyone drives at under 30 mph up and down the road, whereas the truth is far from it!:(
