There's a big development plan for Llanwern that's gonna flatten a lot of countryside. The locals have got together and are putting up a fight, good on them.

The fight is on to save our village from the developers who propose to build 1100 houses on greenfield land at Cot Hill. Our lovely countryside is about to disappear under the bulldozer. Not because there is a shortage of land, but, simply because it?s cheaper to develop greenfield sites. Newport has numerous brownfield and urban sites suitable for housing and in dire need of redevelopment.
It makes no sense whatsoever to destroy more countryside when these sites lie empty. The council would better serve the community by promoting these areas and telling the developers to leave our countryside alone. The view above will be destroyed forever, to be replaced by just another sprawling housing estate. The main beneficiaries being the developers. They?ll be laughing all the way to the bank and we'll be stuck with it for life. Once it?s gone it?s gone.
