We've just got one of those kitchen waste caddies and external waste caddies as part of the Newport trial. I think it's a really good idea and with two young children, we're certainly making full use of ours.

Thought there would be a problem with smell but we usualy empty the kitchen caddy daily so no issues there.

How are others getting along?

Just get a composter, much easier. It can be used for garden and other
more personal waste, which saves water as well.

I would prefer a composter as you get to put your own waste to good. Tried it during the summer but we had a rat take residence. Wife even video tapped the cheeky blighter eating bread we left out for birds!

With two young children, we can't risk having rats around. Had to call the council pest control who advised our garden was too small for a composter. I have read that you can keep the rats away by fitting a wire mesh beneath the composter.
