View Full Version : Cold Caller
Had a young lad knock on the door last night about 6:30pm. He handed me a coupon and explained that someone would phone that evening and tell me what 'prize' I had won.
He then asked for my name to write down and when I informed him he wouldn't be getting it, he snatched the coupon from my hand stating "I'll have that back then", turned and walked off.
Obviously this is a scam but I'm not sure exactly what he intended to do with my details but please be warned.
Just read this article from South Wales Argus (http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/4086552.Gwent_Police_give_warning_on_cold_callers/).
POLICE are urging residents to follow the ?golden rules? when it comes to dealing with cold callers.
According to Gwent police, cold calling traditionally increases at this time of year and the force is reiterating advice to always check a caller identification and not let them in unless there are sure they are genuine.
Inspector Terry Davies, of the community safety unit, said: ?Cold callers can state they represent anything from power companies to public bodies, many are genuine but many aren?t.
Bogus callers prey on the vulnerable and elderly to persuade and distract them into getting what they want.?
Residents are being urged to follow the ?golden rules? by ensuring they always check a caller?s ID carefully, even if it means closing the door and contacting the company, never letting someone in unless sure they are genuine and be firm if they do not wish to speak to a cold caller.
Anyone in doubt should call the police on 01633 838111
