Following on from the active discussion about Hurrans (http://langstonevillage.co.uk/showthread.php?t=44263), there certainly seems to be a lot of strong local interest in building developments in Langstone.

People have talked about building a 'Magor Square' on the old Hurrans site but it does look like the site has been earmarked for more houses. But what about Taylors Cafe?

Would it be financially feasible to build a small collection of shops on this site? Could it be supported by the local customer base?

Perhaps now is not the most attractive time for any developer to invest in a retail outlet ( as an example, Modus Corovest pulled out of the development of Friars Walk).

Maybe it will never be more than a pipe dream but what a difference it would make to the area! A bakers, butchers, post office, Tescos Express (or similar), restaurant, take away....

But what if it could happen?, what if there was enough local support?

According to Royal Mail, NP26 3', which includes Magor,Undy & Rogiet, has a household (residential & business) count of 3,991.

Postcodes 'NP18 1'. 'NP18 2' & NP18 3' which includes Langstone, Caerleon and Ponthir has a count of 7,283. So the numbers are certainly there.

So perhaps it could actually be feasible, perhaps we could have our own 'Magor Square'. I believe such a project would immensely revitalise the whole area and boost community spirit immeasurably.

One's things for sure, this is highly unlikely to happen unless we all rally together and demonstrate some serious desire and commitment for such a development.

So come on, if you'd like to see Taylor Cafe developed into a retail area shops then voice your opinion here. If numbers and passion are high enough, perhaps our local councillors could present this 'petition' to the appropriate people?

I am happy to offer my support. Langstone is crying out for some kind of hub, and I'm sure the proximity to the motorway would be hugely beneficial to any businesses opening there. I'm not overly keen on a Tesco Express simply as it seems Tesco is taking over the world, but a Post Office / convenience store - even a coffee shop or wine bar :D We are certainly all for it and will offer whatever support we can.

The planning application for the develoment of the Taylor's Garage site has been resubmitted. I think it is for 88 houses as it was before. We will be looking at the application at the next community council meeting on 12 April. Watch this space!

Please make sure you all complete your questionaires from planning policy and return them asap. This was delivered to every house in Langstone last Saturday.

I am all for a "Magor Square" for Taylors' Cafe site as I was a year or so ago when first suggested by Paul the Langstone Community site Administrator. I thought it was a great idea then and still do. I agree with Kristie with regards the outlets, we need ones which will still let Langstone keep the "village" feel so I'm not sure about a Tesco Express. :o
