I've just had a leafet poked through the door which reads:

An onsite meeting is taking place at the Balancing Ponds/Pumping Station at the end of Stockwood View on Monday 14th September at 6pm. Mr Tony German, aide to Jessica Morden Labour MP for Newport East, will be in attendance. This will be an opportunity to raise concerns regarding adoption of our roads, vital maintenance of the pumping sewerage station, street lighting etc. The issue of the adoption of roads and services has now dragged on for over 7 years which is totally unacceptable.

We look forward to seeing as many residents as possible.

I'm not sure who has distributed these.

Will anyone from here be in attendance?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of road adoption/non-adoption?

South Wales Argus reported on the 17 September 2009 that a number of roads in the Langstone area have or are in the process of being adopted (please see attached).

Which roads have been adopted in recent weeks?

Is there work currently being carried out to bring roads up to an "adoptable standard"?

Does anyone have an update on the road adoption situation?

I'll take that as a no then :(

Is anyone able to testify as to the accuracy of the above article?

Couldn't find anything on the net. I've invited Cllr Atwell to join this site several times but no luck yet.

As an educated guess the advantage of road adoption is that the council are then obliged to maintain the road to a specified standard. Any shortcoming would be reportable and the council would have presumably have a responsibility to respond.

Non adopted roads are privately owned by the developer and although obliged to maintian to a certain degree, I'd imagine they'd be far less reactive than the council.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll need to phone the council to see what (if anything) is happening!
