It is less than one year to go and there has been anticipation for this event since I moved here in 2001 (and probably before!). I understand from conversations with different people that the event is only 3rd in line after the World Cup and The Olympics in terms of media interest, security risk and visitor numbers. (Really that big!?)It's obviously a huge boost to the area, but from the numbers of houses up for rent, I think a lot of us will be leaving town to escape the hordes!
Has anyone succesfully rented their house?
Anyone any insider knowledge on the practicalities such a school closures and actually moving around? I understand there is going to be traffic free zone, and Langstone is in it. It's all great, but if you still have to do the school run and nip out for a bottle of wine and a takeaway, it could all be frustrating.
Any info anybody?

There will be park and ride car parks at Magor, Llanwern and Tredegar House. If the estimate of 50,000 visitors a day is accurate then the number of coaches going through Langstone is going to be horrific! There will be a no parking zone all the way up Catsash Road apparently. As far as I know the school will not be closed but coaches to Caerleon School will have to go the long way around as the Old Roman Road will be closed off to regular traffic. I think a lot of rental agents are going to make a lot of money out of people putting their houses up for rent. In reality though the demand will be quite small.

I'd imagine the entire area is gonna be one huge bottle neck. The Coldra improvements have made a very noticeable difference in traffic flow but the anticipated number of visitors is simply going to swamp the area.

The event is going to bring a lot of money into the area, shame Langstone itself doesn't have many local business that will benefit (maybe McDonald's & The Coldra pub?)

As for renting your house, there's certainly plenty of rental firms out there and a positive discussion about it here (http://forums.walesonline.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2398).

Assuming have the correct idea ...

parts of Langstone will be inside an "exclusion" zone or at least a disrupted area - has anyone been contacted for an opinion or been told what NCC and others are planning for us ?

Why will demand for rental homes be quite small?

We advertised our house on www.accommodationfortheevent.com/rydercup (http://www.accommodationfortheevent.com/rydercup) and had a booking within 4 weeks. My husband is hugely into golf and it was him that encouraged us to rent our house as ryder cup accommodation.
We had in total 14 enquiries about our house, it is located 25 minutes from the Ryder Cup golf course and is a nice 5 bedroom detached house.
Demand seemed quite high to us.
