I'd buy up the land at Taylor's garage and build 'Langstone Square'. Similar to 'Albert Square', Langstone Square would include:

A small central park comprising of tress, shrubs, seats and benches.
A butchers?, bakery, post office and general store.
Community hall.
Designated area for weekend market stalls.
Village pub.
But I don't have that sort of money so I guess the land will be used to build even more houses.:(

Admin,

If I had the money I would go half with you - brill idea - L(l)angstone Square - even sounds good. But why stop the dream? Perhaps there is some really smart developer out there who could make it happen. Or perhaps we could try Sir Terry! What a bonus Langstone Village Square would be for the Ryder Cup but even better what a brilliant focal point for the village. With so much money being ploughed into Newport City in readiness for 2010, what about a few million being spent in the locality of the Ryder Cup.

Some local shops would be great. Unfortunately, a large proportion of the population of Langstone work during the day. This would mean that small businesses such as bakers or butchers would have to stay open very late to make it viable for them. Apparently, the farmers market is not doing that well, so that may well close due to lack of customers.

A small Waitrose would be great on the former Taylors Garage site instead of yet more houses. Given the current housing crisis I can't image a developer being able to sell them easily, especially as they will be sandwiched between the A48 and the hard shoulder of the M4.

I have heard Langstone refered to as Noddysville (full of identical square Noddy boxes) would you believe!!!!!! - Charming.
